2011 Loganberry Festival
Back to the Farm
July 23 and 24, 2011
The Loganberry Festival is a celebration of all of the many attributes of Greenbank Farm. It is the opportunity to spotlight the land, programs and relationships the Farm serves to nurture. As such the Festival encompasses:
- Community produced goods, arts and services and food
- Farming based activities and experiences
- Family focused entertainment and games
- Environment, landscape and preservation learning
- Tenant sales and service
- History of the Farm
In 2011 we added Back to the Farm to our logo to remind everyone that what we provide is a a uniquely Whidbey farms experience.
Special features of the 201 Loganberry, Back to the Farm experience :
- Featuring locally made and produce goods, arts and artisanal foods. Our visitors were impressed with the variety, quality and abundance of talents and energy our vendors presenters;
- 4-H and Equestrian Program - what better place than on a farm to experience animals. Children and adults loved the equestrian events, seeing chickens, goats, pigs, cows and learned from the animal rescue exhibits with the fire department. This provided 4-H with a warm-up to the country fair;
- Farmers and farm tour – produce and farm products as well as education and experiencing the land brought an element to the festival not experienced elsewhere;
- Exhibitors included many of the environmental, animal welfare and other public service organizations providing valuable information about living wisely on the land we love.
Even our customary festival activities were further enriched -
- Pie Eating contests not only for kids, adults had fun too;
- Fabulous Eats including Whidbey’s own hamburg grown here and served by the Navy, pies, barbeque, ice cream, and all local, all delicious;
- Foot stomping entertainment - Rural Characters, Shifty Sailors and local favorites;
- Quality Arts, Crafts and Artisanal Food – all made/produced and sold by Whidbey area artisans;
- Tours of the Agricultural Training Center and Master Gardeners garden;
- Hayrides by M-Bar-C and Sherman Farm;
- Tasting regional boutique wines and beers;
- Play Area hosted by Free Evangelical Church and Whidbey Island Bank with face painting, games and kinetic water action station;
- Demonstrations black smith, wood carvers and other artists in action; and tons of surprises including a stiltman, banners, dancing.
More than 7,000 people turned out to enjoy two brilliant days in July. Sixty Navy volunteers assisted and brought friends and family. There were over 100 volunteers in all. Our sponsors not only contributed generously but many participated with activities and information.
THANKS to all who visited, participated, donated and volunteered!
