A Challenge and an Opportunity

Weeds are opportunists. They come in where the land has been significantly modified, leaving gaps in the native vegetation. Here at Greenbank Farm, after more than a hundred years of land modification, we can show you a great variety of weeds, both noxious (those addressed by our Washington State Weed Control Law) and obnoxious (those cursed by farmers and home gardeners alike).

We do have weed management plans in place, especially for the listed noxious species, and we are continually working to reduce their populations – but we’re sure you’ll see some of the following while you’re here. If you’re interested in joining our weed team, be sure to let us know!

Tansy Ragwort – Class B Noxious Weed

Canada Thistle – Class C Noxious Weed

English Ivy – Class C Noxious Weed

Himalayan Blackberry – obnoxious weed

Curly Dock – very obnoxious weed

Purple Loosestrife – Class B Noxious Weed, wetland
