back to the farm
July 27 & 28, 2013
10 a.m. – 5 p.m. each day
The Loganberry Festival is a celebration of all the Farm has been and how it is moving into the future. It is a fantastic opportunity to feature the land, programs and community we all care for. At the festival, you’ll be able to:
- Buy from local/regional vendors
- Take tours of the Organic Farm School
- Watch draft horses cultivate and mow
- Observe a falconry exhibition and learn how birds of prey are used in contemporary agriculture
- Have a blast playing kids’ games
- Listen to great local bands and acoustic musicians
- Engage with artists in the galleries
- Watch local, world-class equestrian and dog agility acts
- Observe 4-H’ers competing to qualify for dog agility at the upcoming state fair
- Imbibe in our local beer and wine garden
- Learn about solar power, water catchment, organic agriculture, and the history of the Farm
- Participate in chalk drawing and pie eating contests
All of the activities you will experience at the Festival are particular to the Farm and local to Whidbey and its nearby neighbors. You will meet artists, entertainers, farmers, food vendors, service organizations and volunteers, all of whom are neighbors and produce their goods and services themselves.
The Farm is managed by a non-profit, sustained by the Port of Coupeville and a dedicated group of tenants, volunteers, and friends of the Farm. The Loganberry Festival is our annual celebration of all the work that goes into making sure that the Farm’s past is remembered and it’s future is protected.
The wonderful volunteers and Friends of the Farm who make the festival possible span all segments of our Whidbey community including corporate groups, the Navy, service organizations, and many generous private individuals.
Please join us on July 27 and 28 – rain or shine. There’s plenty of parking (a $5/car suggested donation helps defray costs associated with our music line up and the music licenses that go along with it). Our galleries and shops will be open and participating in all the fun. In short, there will be something exciting for every member of your family!
Highlights of the Festival
Bluegrass/Acoustic Jam – Sunday from 12:30 to 3:00 ish
In addition to all day long events at the entertainment main stage and the animal arena, there will be a bluegrass/acoustic jam in the Master Gardener area – right as you enter the Farm. There is sun and shade and lots of beauty! Bring a chair and your instrument – we look forward to seeing you there!
Raptor Raffle – Falconry Demonstration and Field Hunt
This year, we are offering an incredibly unique experience. Licensed falconer Steve Layman has offered a falconry demonstration and field hunt for up to 5 people in fall 2013. As the birds are released to hunt, Steve will provide detailed information of raptor physiology and behavior. The United Nations has deemed falconry a cultural preservation initiative…… The fall schedule and Whidbey Island release location will be coordinated with the winner. Up to five people (may include children) will observe raptor behavior first hand which through binoculars would be difficult to determine.
Tickets are $20 a piece. The drawing will take place at 4 p.m. Sunday, July 28 in the Equestrian Arena at the Loganberry Festival. You need not be present to win.
