VOLUNTEERING

If you love the open spaces, the opportunities to support locally owned businesses, the protection of natural resources, the availability of local, organically grown food and the farmers who produce it…

If you want to deepen your sense of place here on the island…

If you enjoy working and laughing with your friends and neighbors…

Please consider volunteering at the Farm!

Upcoming Volunteer Activities include:

April 1 – Loganberry Patch Clean Up (12-2)
Come help tie up the approximately 250 plants at the Loganberry Patch. You bring your enthusiasm and warm clothes and we’ll provide the knowledge. For more information or to sign up, contact Paula at 206.713.9024 or selfcare@whidbey.com.

April 18 – Master Gardener Garden Clean Up Party (9am-1pm)
Master Gardeners are hosting a work party to clean the garden area up from winter and get ready for the growing season! Cleaning is from 9-1 and anyone who volunteers gets a free hot dog lunch. For more information, contact Marcia at mlynnenelson@comcast.net.

April 27&28 – Picket Fence Painting Days (11am-2pm)
We need to freshen up our plentiful picket fences at the Farm with a fresh coat of paint. Interested in helping? We’ll provide the paint and the tools, you bring your enthusiasm.

Thanks to Serene Gutters for the complimentary cleaning and maintenance!

Current volunteer opportunities include:

  • Working with a team to plan the 2012 Loganberry Festival.
  • Helping with maintenance tasks, the kind you’d expect around a 107-year old farm site…painting, minor plumbing repairs, changing light bulbs, pressure washing sidewalks, etc.
  • Participating in a field management plan to control invasive plants (i.e. blackberries and noxious weeds). Yes, this means pulling, cutting, and bagging.
  • Pitching in with monitoring and management of our pastures.
  • Teaching classes on topics consistent with our mission and related to either agriculture/food, commerce/business, recreation, or environmental stewardship.
  • Helping with data entry, filing, office organization.
  • Creating informational brochures.
  • Creating videos and slide shows about the Farm.

If you’re interested in being a part of the Farm’s future, and you’re ready to get to work, contact us! volunteer@greenbankfarm.com
